FAQs

Want to learn more about our church? Here are some general frequently asked questions to get you started.

No, you do not need to “dress up” for church. We have a mix of clothing styles that are worn at church.

You should attend St. Andrew’s UCC for at least three months so that you have an opportunity to get to know the congregation and for the congregation to get to know you. After that, if the Spirit is encouraging you to join the church, you can let the pastor know. You will meet with the pastor for a new members class and together choose a date for joining. To join the church, you can transfer membership from another church, affirm your baptism, or be baptized if you haven’t already. There will be a brief new member service in which to join the church in the midst of a Sunday morning worship service.

The Sacrament of Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of God. Inasmuch as the promise of the gospel is not only to us but also to our children, baptism with water and the Holy Spirit is the mark of your or your child’s acceptance into the care of Christ’s church, the sign and seal of your or your child’s participation in God’s forgiveness, and the beginning of your or your child’s growth into full Christian faith and discipleship.
The Sacrament of Baptism takes place in the context of Sunday worship in the midst of the congregation. As you make promises for yourself or your child, the church also makes a promise to love, support and care for you or your child. Therefore, we prefer that you be a member or become a member through baptism who attends worship and participates in the life of the church regularly.

St. Andrew’s UCC uses grape juice for communion.

St. Andrew’s UCC offers both gluten free bread and bread with gluten. They are kept separate.

Christ’s table is for all people who wish to know the presence of Christ and to share in the community of God’s people. Adults and children are welcome to participate in communion. If a parent is not ready for their child to receive communion, the child receives a blessing. If an adult does not want to receive communion, they are invited to receive a blessing.

We have a Christian nurture program on Sunday mornings for children and adults. We also have a Vacation Bible School program that runs for one week in the summer for children. Young families are invited to participate in all aspects of church life. New groups for social, educational, or missional purposes are formed as needed.
